Director of Bands - Mr. William Balusik
William Balusik began as the director of bands for Paint Valley Local School District in the fall of 2023. Mr. Balusik earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Ohio University in spring of 2023. Before arriving at Paint Valley, Mr. Balusik has worked with various music programs around Ohio such as Allen East, Westland and Wheelersburg and completed his professional internship at Waverly High School in Waverly, OH.
Mr. Balusik will keep the current Vision and Goals stated for the program by the previous director, as a template for how the program has progressed and where we aim to be in the coming years.

- The Paint Valley Marching Band is a symbol of pep and excitement for the Paint Valley School and Community. Cutting the Band Program is unthinkable.
- The Paint Valley Band Program is a district and state recognized powerhouse program that consistantly performs well at AE and is invited to perform at OMEA Conference as a model of what a rural band program should look like.
- Students in the band program are incredibly proud of their roots. The culture of the band program is propetual pursuit of perfection!
New Goals:
Marching Band as a symbol:
- We will sustain the PVMB above 40 members for two consecutive years by 2028.
- The Paint Valley Marching Band will increase the number of Bainbridge performances from 3 to 4 by 2026.
- The Paint Valley Marching Band will perform at one other sporting event each year
Concert Band as a powerhouse program:
- PV Concert Band will earn its second Superior Rating at State Large Group AE by 2026.
- PV Concert Band will apply for and be accepted to perform at OMEA PDC by 2028.
Student culture:
- The PVMB will be entirely student led by 2025:
- Music selected by vote [completed 2020]
- Drill/Dances written by students [completed 2020]
- Student Leadership Team meets regularly throughout the season with 100% attendance.
- 80% (4/5) of rehearsals run by students.
- Students will write and post inspiring SMART Goals every year to be revisited quarterly every year.
- The band will host 2 bonding events a year (outside of marching band)
Completed Goals:
- Win Battle of the Bands by (2019). [completed 2017, and 2019!]
- Begin taking the high school and middle school band to OMEA Contest (2017). [completed 2017!]
- Earn an Excellent (II) rating at OMEA State Contest by 2020. [completed 2017!]
- Straight I's at District OMEA Contest by 2019. [completed 2018!]
- Earn a Superior (I) rating at OMEA State Contest by 2020! [completed 2018!]
- Overnight travel before 2018. (1 year before Bowl Game) [Chicago, IL 2017!]
- Create a "History of Paint Valley Bands" page including Alumni, previous directors, and Band Milestones by May of 2016. [began construction November 2015]
- Consistently recruit over 23 students into the 5th and 6th grade bands. (30% of pop) [2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019]
- Create and adopt a district approved instrument replacement plan. (2015) [completed!]
- Restart the pvhs jazz band. (2014) [completed!]
- Create a schedule that allows for students to begin band at any grade. (2015) [started "beginning band camp" in 2015 to allow for smoother transitions!]
- Coordinate at least 4 cheers with cheerleaders and 2 with student section. (2015 FB/BB) [Hey Song, Let's Go Cats, Jump Cadence, Eat 'em Up]
- Perform 2 large spirit activities this season. (2014) [March the Halls, Marching Band Pep Rally 2018]
