Picture Day + Sports Physicals
The Monday of Band Camp is when PV has scheduled Fall Sports Pictures. Students will have roughly an hour and a half from the end of practice until they need to be back in the band room for fall sports pictures (call time 2:20). We ask that long hair be pulled back off the shoulders for the full group picture, but can be worn however you like for any individual or small group shots. I know some students will very much like to freshen up at home before pictures, but if you would rather stay hang out, at the school for that hour and a half, you may stay. I would recommend brining a book or your phone, however as social distancing/masking guidelines will still be in effect if we are still in the band room.
Band pictures will be the first pictures @3:00 in the stadium. This is literally the hottest point in the day, in the hottest part of the school campus, in your full dark thick uniform. It will be hot. Please know this going in and help us make the pictures go as quickly as possible by being on time. The rest of the fall sports picture schedule is on our Band Google Calendar in the description of the event. I have not received picture forms just yet; I will pass those out w
The school is also offering sports physicals for students who still need one for the school year. Band does not require a physical, but if you are playing another sport this school year, this could be a great time for you to get yours done as they do expire every 12 months. Appointments must be made ahead of time (appointment link) 8:00 -5:00. If you are getting your physical done this day, we encourage you to schedule your appointment outside of band camp from 1-2 or 4-5.
Band Camp and Bonding
Pre-Camp has been mostly cool. We did morning block in the shade and we have spent the bulk of each day in sectionals where many could sit down also in the shade. Band Camp will not be as much in the shade. Band Camp will also not be sitting down and will take place largely on the turf football field that adds 10 degrees to the heat. There have been a few students who have forgotten water bottles or brought non-insulated water bottles. This is HIGHLY inadvisable next week. Also, wear a hat/sunscreen/shades. There will be sun.
Things to bring to bandcamp ranked in order of importance:
- Instrument/music/pencil
- Large insulated water bottle with your name on it
- Close-toed shoes
- Hat/sunscreen/shades
- Dressed to theme (optional)
The evenings of band camp Monday - Thursday the student leadership team has put together bonding activities that will take place on Paint Valley's campus 6-8p. Each of the activities has been thought through and carefully planned to continue to be performed within our Safety Plan. Distancing and masking policy will still be in effect at bonding events (and all PV Band-sanctioned events). Details surrounding each activity will be made clear by the leadership team as the event gets closer. Attendance at bonding events is optional, but encouraged. The more the merrier!
Money Things
Thank you to all of the band parents who came to fit every student to a full band uniform this week. As of today, each student should have their summer uniform shirt and shorts, be assigned a full uniform hat/jacket/bib/rain jacket, and fitted for gloves, spats, and shoes. The shoe and hearing protection orders have not yet come in. We will pass them on to you as soon as we get them in. If we do not have shoes by Monday, we have a backup plan involving spares and clever positioning that will get us through the group shot.
If you ordered any of the below items for this season, please have your order fee ready by Band Camp (8/3). Checks made payable to "Paint Valley Band Boosters". If circumstances require a little more flexibility, that is 100% okay. Just let us know how we can help.
- Summer Uniform Shirt - $26
- Summer Uniform Shorts - $20
- Full Uniform Shoes - $26
- Hearing protection (drumline) - $20
I have not heard back about transportation fees from the school district. In the past, it has been $30 per student, per sport with a $90 family cap that resets each season. That fee is imposed by PVLSD - checks turned in to the band office made out to "Paint Valley Local Schools" (different than the uniform fees). In the past that fee has been required by the first football game (8/26), but again, this year is quite different. I will keep you informed as I am informed.

Thank you again for all of your patience and cooperation this summer. Every student has been a champion about our safety plan and working hard. If you have any questions in the mean time, please reach out to me or your section leaders!
See you tomorrow,
Nicholas Turon
