We have some Hybrid updates and the like.
New Marching Band Practice Schedule
We will only rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now until Last Blast. After Last Blast, if we are still in the Playoffs, we will practice only on Thursdays and have a runthrough on Saturday before the game. So, here is what our next three weeks look like:
- W 10/7 - off
- R 10/8 - Practice 3:15-5:15
- F 10/9 - off
Next week:
- M 10/12 - off
- T 10/13 - Practice 3:15-5:15
- W 10/14 - off
- R 10/15 - Practice 1:15-3:15 (2hr early release) LT Meeting 3:15-4:00
- F 10/16 - Last Blast (6:15 call, 7:00 show)
- S 10/17 - Playoff Game (best guess is 7:00 kickoff makes a 6:00 call)
- U 10/18 - Cookout 3:00-5:00p
Following weeks: (playoffs pending)
- Thursdays - Practice 3:15-5:15
- Saturdays - Call 1hr before kickoff
Students who are not "in school" on the day we have practice are asked (if possible) to make it back for marching band practice. If you are having trouble finding a ride with parent work schedules, please reach out to your section leader for help! We might only have 3 practices left in the season!
Hybrid Schedule and Band Class
Paint Valley is moving to a hybrid schedule starting on Monday (10/12). Students with last names A-K will go to school MT; students with last names K-Z will go to school RF; Wednesday will have no students.
The reason for the hybrid schedule was to make sure that class sizes can maintain 6' spacing between students. As long as it is not raining, and it is above 50 degrees, band class can be outdoors where we can have an unlimited number of students in our "classroom" while maintaining 6' spacing. As a result, if students would like to come in for just band class on days you are not at school, we have permission to do so. I know there are several students who only have band class at Paint Valley and are commuting in this way anyway. We have gotten permission from the principal that allows for this to happen.
We will measure out the band room this weekend for how many people we can fit in the band room at 6' spacing. If we have that many students or fewer "in class" that day, we will have class indoors; if not, we will have class outdoors. (weather permitting)
Homework
Your "homework" in band class is to practice your instrument and submit to me your recordings! We will no longer designate class time for you to complete assignments. You need to take your instrument home! If you need to do it at school, I am availible before school, after school, and during Cat period. I think this is a completely reasonable expectation with 60% of our class time being lost with this schedule.
As always, you have unlimited number of submissions and resubmissions. You may always rerecord for full points up until the quarter ends! Your grade is not set in stone!

See you tomorrow,
